Trail Description

Charleville wood is of huge ecological and historical importance to Ireland. Although privately owned Charleville is widely used by the people of Tullamore who value its recreational benefits. Charleville castle is a impressive Gothic style building at the focal point of the grounds and was built between 1798 and 1812 by Charles William Burry, 1st earl of Charlville. It is regarded as one of the finest early 19th century castles in Ireland.The King Oak is the most famous tree on the estate nobody is quite sure of its age but estimates place it between the 14th and 16th centuries.
