Trail Description

Wooded trail that circle's Castle Lough which is well stocked with pike, roach, bream and perch. The trail takes you around the demolished castle which went on fire in 1923. The forest estate has strong links the 1798 Rising, especially Rebel Hill where the United Irishmen were heavily defeated. Car park and picnic area at entrance. The fifth forest established by the state. Once owned by William Bailie, a Scottish planter. The original name 'Coill an Chollaigh' means 'Forest of the boar.'
