Trail Description
This walk is one of the marked loop walks from Kealkill near Bantry. The walk starts at Carriganass Castle and heads up into the hills to the walkers right hand side. From the castle continue on down the lane until a bridge is reached, here take the right hand road which gradually rises uphill from where a good view of Bantry Bay can be seen. The road continues and the walker goes slightly downhill before a stile on the left hand side is reached. From here the track leads uphill into the hills named Knockbreteen and Shronagreehy (Srón na Gaoithe) which means the nose of the wind. The trail continues at the top of these hills with good views of the Borlin Valley and up to Cousane Gap then a right hand turn is taken through the forest to join the Beara Breifne Way. At this road take a left hand turn which passes by the pre-historic Maughnasilly Stone Row and arrives at the crossroads at Tooreen lake. At the cross roads take the left hand turn which goes down hill all the way to Carriganass Castle. This walk takes roughly 2.5 hours and is a mixture of country roads and walking tracks.
