Trail Description
This walk starts in the village of Kealkill near Bantry West Cork and continues east out the Ballingeary road until a left turn is taken at Carriganass castle. From here the route follows the road over the Owenbeg river and the left hand road is taken at the fork which rises into the hills through a townland called Ahil. The route continues on the road until a signpost on the left hand side directs the walker through the hills off road with views of Bantry Bay and Whiddy Island ahead. The route then joins up with the Beara Breifne way with views of the Borlin Valley on a dirt road where the walker turns right towards Tooreen Lake. At the cross roads here where the Maughnasilly stone row is situated, a right turn is taken which passes the lake and commences the descent back to the village with views of Kealkill as far as Cousane gap and down to Bantry Bay, and the Sheep's Head peninsula in the distance.

Is there much of a climb at any point? Im looking for a nice walk for the start of Feb and this seems to fit. Just dont want anything with too high a climb.Posted by DigitalCorporal on January 24th, 2014 - 14:14:15
